Starlink Officially Launches in Bangladesh, Bridging Connectivity Gaps in Remote Areas

SilentFort Tech Desk | Dhaka | August 6, 2025

Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, has officially launched its operations in Bangladesh. This development marks a significant milestone in expanding high-speed internet access to remote and underserved regions across the country.

Starlink satellite internet hardware kit, including the satellite dish, mounting tripod, power adapter, and connection cables, designed for easy installation to provide high-speed internet access in remote areas.

Since its initial deployment in late May, Starlink has gradually extended coverage nationwide, providing a reliable alternative to traditional broadband infrastructure. By leveraging a constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites, the service can deliver high-speed, low-latency internet without dependence on ground-based cables or towers.

Expanding Access Beyond Urban Centers

Despite rapid growth in urban internet penetration, many areas in Bangladesh—especially flood-prone char lands, hilly regions, and coastal zones—continue to face connectivity challenges. Starlink’s satellite-based model is uniquely suited to overcome these barriers, offering consistent internet access regardless of geographical obstacles.

The service holds particular promise for sectors such as remote education, telemedicine, disaster management, and agriculture, where reliable connectivity is crucial.

Subscription Plans and Availability

Current pricing for Bangladeshi users is set as follows:

  • Monthly subscription fee: ৳4,200
  • One-time hardware cost (satellite dish and modem): ৳47,000

The hardware is designed for easy self-installation, with professional installation options expected to become available soon. Starlink aims to provide full service coverage across all 64 districts in the coming months.

Strategic Importance and Future Outlook

The launch coincides with Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts under the Smart Bangladesh 2041 initiative to achieve universal digital inclusion. While traditional telecom infrastructure continues to expand, satellite internet offers a vital complementary solution in areas where laying cables or erecting towers is impractical.

A spokesperson from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) noted, “Satellite broadband services like Starlink are crucial for ensuring reliable internet access in the most hard-to-reach parts of the country and will play an important role in national digital transformation.”

Furthermore, satellite connectivity enhances disaster resilience by maintaining communication during natural calamities such as floods and cyclones.
