Dhaka, September 4, 2025 — Bangladesh has officially entered the 5G era, with leading telecom operators Robi Axiata and Grameenphone launching commercial 5G services across multiple cities.

Robi initiated its 5G rollout in select areas of Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet, marking the first commercial 5G launch in the country. The operator activated 5G services in locations such as Fakirapul, Maghbazar Chowrasta, parts of Dhaka University, Khulshi in Chattogram, and Sagor Dighir Par in Sylhet .
Shortly after, Grameenphone followed suit, launching its 5G services in all divisional cities, including Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet. The operator showcased advanced 5G use cases, including augmented reality (AR) video, virtual reality (VR) gaming, and cloud gaming, at its Innovation Lab in Dhaka .
Both operators had previously conducted successful 5G trials in Dhaka and Rangpur, achieving impressive speeds and demonstrating the potential of next-generation connectivity .
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) had earlier awarded unified licenses to Grameenphone, Robi, and Teletalk, enabling them to provide 5G services under a streamlined regulatory framework .
With the launch of 5G services, Bangladesh takes a significant step toward enhancing digital connectivity and supporting the development of a Smart Bangladesh.
